Michaela has been happily driving the Miata, and I’ve been driving the Jag. Got 9mpg city last fuel tank. Better than 7, I guess. Electric fan conversion should bump that up a little bit when I do that later this week.

Send that bad boy to Knowles & Wilkins. Think ICON, but for XJSes.

Expect about a 5% gain in mileage with an electric fan. And make sure your electrical system is up to the task as the draw is quite large. Are you having overheating problems? A healthy cooling system on a 350 and it can basically air cool. What thermostat do you have installed? Radiator clear?

Stock jag V12 radiator. Don’t have heat issues except for general underhood air temps getting ridiculous if it’s over 90 degrees out and I’m doing a lot of stop and go. Electric fans would help with that since they could run at 100% if the car gets warm regardless of speed, and they can turn off completely on the highway. Should be nice, just gotta figure out how to control them.

There should be plenty of write-ups on hot rodding forums since everyone and their brother has a small block. If it were me, I would make sure I had a good shroud and a good fan clutch and run it that way. The hp loss for a fan clutch is minimal. For more power look to heads, headers, cam, exhaust, etc. I was thinking about electric fans until I dug into it and found that it’s a lot of work for fairly minimal returns, in my case.

At speed you should have plenty of air flow to cool the engine without the fan running at all. If not, you have cooling issues. Sediment, bad thermostat, etc. Mine gets to 210 in 95 degree heat with the AC on with a 180 thermostat. Shut the AC off and it drops down to 190-195.

Good luck. That is a really good looking car you have.

My car rarely gets to operating temp unless it’s hot and is sitting in a drive through or something. The V12's radiator is hilarious overkill
